For nearly 140 years, Hall Neighborhood House has been building a stronger community in Bridgeport by investing in neighbors of all ages. The building has changed. The programs have changed. Bridgeport has changed.
Hall’s purpose has never wavered.
When early education became one of the community’s greatest needs, Hall expanded childcare and preschool. When students needed more opportunities beyond the classroom, after-school programs, leadership development, athletics, and STEM education grew alongside them. When families faced barriers to healthcare, Hall built partnerships that brought dental care, behavioral health, and other essential services closer to home. Through it all, Hall has continued welcoming older adults who come not only for meals and activities, but for the simple comfort of belonging somewhere.

When Hall first opened its doors in 1886, the goal was simple: help children and families build better lives. That mission continues today through Hall’s commitment to early childhood education.
Today, Hall is the largest provider of affordable, high-quality early childhood education on Bridgeport’s East Side, serving hundreds of children each year in safe, nurturing classrooms where learning begins long before kindergarten.
For working parents, this dependable childcare creates stability and opportunity. For children, it builds confidence, curiosity, and a strong educational foundation.

For 140 Years, Hall Has Helped Young People Discover Their Potential
Each afternoon, Hall comes alive with after-school programs, homework assistance, enrichment clubs, leadership opportunities, organized athletics, and mentoring relationships that help young people build confidence, resilience, and character.
For many students, Hall becomes more than a place to go after school—it becomes a second home.
Through our HNH LEADS program (Learn, Engage, Aspire, Deliver, Succeed), high school students receive college and career preparation, leadership development, and one-on-one mentorship that encourages them to dream bigger about what’s possible for their future. Since the program was relaunched in Summer 2023, 29 HNH LEADS participants have become first-generation college students, creating opportunities that will positively impact not only their own lives, but future generations of their families.
In 1886, Hall helped young people prepare for the opportunities of a changing city. Today, that same spirit lives on by helping students prepare for college, careers, and lives of purpose.

Today’s students need skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics that simply didn’t exist when Hall was founded. Rather than holding onto the past, Hall has continued to evolve to meet the opportunities of tomorrow.
Today, Hall proudly leads Bridgeport’s only public-private STEM partnership, bringing hands-on STEM education into public schools and reaching more than 14,000 students each year.
By introducing young people to innovation, problem-solving, and emerging careers, Hall is helping prepare the next generation of leaders, creators, healthcare professionals, engineers, entrepreneurs, and innovators.

Every weekday, Hall welcomes more than 50 seniors into our Senior Center for nutritious meals, wellness activities, recreation, educational programs, and meaningful friendships.
On any given day, young children, teenagers, parents, volunteers, and older adults all share the same campus. They remind us that every generation has something valuable to teach—and something meaningful to receive.

Hall partners with the University of Bridgeport FONES School of Dental Hygiene to provide free dental care for children and families who might otherwise go without preventative services.

None of these programs exist in isolation—they work because they’re connected.
A child who starts in Hall’s early learning program may return years later for after-school activities. That student’s family might receive support navigating community resources. A grandparent may participate in programming just down the hall. Staff members know families by name, celebrate milestones together, and often watch children grow up.
Most people won’t remember every program a community center offers.
They’ll remember the teacher who believed in their child. The mentor who encouraged them to apply for college. The neighbor they met over lunch after years of feeling isolated. The familiar faces that greeted them during a difficult season.
