It’s been an exciting spring here at Hall Neighborhood House! Our high school seniors celebrated as college admissions decisions came in, our STEM team facilitated the third annual STEM Day at Hallen School, and we rolled out a new campaign to raise awareness for our mental health services.
Our job is to make life better for our neighbors—and that work happens in surprisingly varied ways. Your support allows us to be responsive to our community’s needs and show up immediately when they need us.

STEM Updates!
On May 24, our STEM team took over Hallen School for the 3rd annual STEM Day! We spent the whole day doing STEM activities designed to spark interest in science, technology, engineering, and math.
We worked with the teachers at Hallen School to build custom STEM curricula for each class. During music, for example, students learned about sound waves. And in art, they built their own scribble bots and used them to create one-of-a-kind pieces.
In addition, we hosted a STEM Sneak Peek at The Alan Wallack STEM Learning Center at John Winthrop School! Guests got to check out the state-of-the-art technology, watch students learn to code, and observe students engaging in cutting-edge STEM activities. To date, we’ve opened twelve The Alan Wallack STEM Learning Centers at Bridgeport Public Schools across the district!
Mental Health Care for Our Neighbors
According to the Association for American Medical Colleges, only 15% of the need for mental health care is met in Connecticut. Even if you have insurance, a lack of providers and high out-of-pocket costs are just some of the many barriers to care. Without insurance, access is nearly impossible.
At Hall Neighborhood House, we believe that mental health care should be accessible to everyone. That’s why we’ve been working hard to expand our programs, reduce stigma in our community, and get our neighbors the care they need.
At our on-site medical clinic, providers from our partner, Southwest Community Health, bring mental health care directly to our community. They provide resources, therapy, referrals, and more for neighbors of all ages.
College Prep Program
Here at Hall, we’re building a culture of college knowledge for our students and families! Our college program starts when students enter high school and helps them chart a course to higher education—and it’s specifically designed to support first-generation college students.
This year, all nine seniors in our program were accepted into college!

We are very grateful Dave Mahder for sharing so many volunteer hours with the students in the program! His mentorship, connections, and expertise have been invaluable to the program.
Senior Trip to Foxwood Casino
Our seniors love a good casino trip! This month, they went to Foxwood Casino. We provide transportation so everyone can participate in this fun day out!
Mother’s Day
We had a great time celebrating all of our Hall moms for Mother’s Day. We are so grateful for their role in our lives!
Early Learning Book Fair
We also hosted our annual Early Learning Book Fair! We are grateful to Fairfield University for providing us with so many great books.
